Coming Soon: The All-New 2019 Ram 1500

There should be no compromises when selecting a new truck. It has to be strong, tough, well-built, accommodating, capable, work-ready, and powerful. Nothing should be set aside for the sake of compromise.

This is why the 2019 Ram 1500 will offer no compromises.

The North American International Auto Show in Detroit provided the stage for Ram Trucks' next chapter. This is an all-new pickup from the ground up with nothing spared in terms of technology, engineering, and capability.

The first big news for the 2019 Ram 1500 is an overall weight reduction totaling nearly 225 pounds net when compared to current model. The new frame uses 98 percent high-strength steel to improve durability, weight and rigidity for improved handling. The frame is also lighter by 100 pounds. Though it is lighter and stronger, the 2019 Ram 1500 is also capable with new benchmarks achieves in terms of capacity. Maximum payload is now increased to 2,300 pounds, while maximum trailer towing capacity is raised to 12,750 pounds.

Closer to where the rubber meets the road is new engineering for the suspension system - one of the most unique and class-leading parts of the Ram 1500. For example, there is an all-new Frequency Response Damping (FRD) shock system that delivers the best combination of ride, handling and comfort in a pickup. A next generation, class-exclusive air suspension enhances fuel efficiency, improves ride, and gives greater off-road capability, load-leveling and entry/exit convenience. Stopper power has also improved with the largest front brakes in segment at 14.9 inches and new electric parking brake. Lastly, a new 4x4 Off-road Package includes suspension with one-inch lift, electronic locking rear axle, tuned shocks and Hill-descent Control.

The 2019 Ram 1500 delivers significant gains in fuel efficiency with eTorque mild hybrid system on second generation 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engines.  The system combines a belt-drive motor generator unit with 48-volt battery pack to enable start/stop function, short-term torque assist and brake energy regeneration. The mild hybrid system adds up to 90 lb.-ft. of torque to the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and up to 130 lb.-ft. to the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8. This makes the eTorque system part of the widest use of mild hybrid technology in the segment.

Step inside and you will be greeted by an available 12-inch touch screen display. The screen is highly reconfigurable with multiple functions available, including climate control and infotainment. This screen also houses the advanced UConnect 4 infotainment system, which now enables Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to be connected for the first time in a Ram pickup.  The latter is also available with the 8.4-inch UConnect system as well.

Active safety will take center stage on the 2019 Ram 1500. Included are new features designed to keep this pickup truck safe at all times. These features include Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Go and Hold, Forward Collision Warning-Plus that warns the driver if impact appears imminent, and assists driver response by deploying brakes, Ready Alert Braking and Trailer-sway Damping control. Because a truck can be hard to handle, other new active safety features include LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus alerts and assist the driver with corrective action, and ParkSense Parallel/Perpendicular Park and Hill-start Assist that uses ultrasonic sensors to help the driver perform technical maneuvers.

In the end, it is all about how the truck looks. The 2019 Ram 1500 is the most aerodynamic pickup in the business, with a .357 drag coefficient. Some trucks talk about being sleek, but the 2019 Ram 1500 will cheat the wind better than any pickup out there. It is also the first Ram to be designed as a Ram first and foremost. The new grille textures and a chiseled Ram head lead the way on this new chapter of this truck's history. And, if you're wondering - you can still get the Ram Box on these new pickups.
